The NYC Diaries: The Must See's | Travel By Harrison

Welcome back to another NYC themed post. Today, I'm going to be talking you though the must see things whilst you're in New York. 

// 9/11 Memorial \\ 

Kicking things off with the 9/11 Memorial. As you're all probably aware, the most horrific terror attack struck NYC on the 11th September 2001. A series of planes were hijacked, with 2 of them hitting the Twin Towers, causing them to collapse and kill thousands of people. Years on, a memorial has been set up at the sight of the twin towers, now known as Ground Zero. In the exact place of the towers are these two huge water falls with each of the victims names, etched into the walls. 

Inside the museum itself, it takes you on a time line of the events. From the very first phone call made, to days and weeks after the event. With harrowing voice clips, pictures and debris this is probably the most special place you can visit. 

"No Day Shall Erase You From The Memory Of Time" 

// Brooklyn Bridge \\ 

Number 2 on the list, we have Brooklyn Bridge. A mile long bridge, stretching from New York to Brooklyn. This bridge is an iconic landmark of New York & a must see for any trip. However, if you're not fussed about heading over to Brooklyn, I wouldn't suggest you go on the bridge. After all it is a mile long, plus the pathway is really narrow, full of crowds & not worth the walk if you're not fussed about Brooklyn. 

Plus, the best pictures of the bridge, are not on the bridge. 

// Statue Of Liberty \\ 

Again, another icon of New York. The Statue of Liberty, gifted to America from France, she stands tall at around 800 feet off the ground. Once copper, now green, the Statue of Liberty welcomes visitors by boat, to the city. 

Hop on a ferry, head over and enjoy the sea breeze, the Manhattan skyline & also take in the sights of neighbouring city, New Jersey.

// The Highline \\ 

Once a railway, The Highline has now been converted into a tranquil walkway in the Meatpacking District. With pathways, gardens and water features, The Highline is a great way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. 

Also for fans of 'The City' starring Whitney Port. DVF where Whitney went to work, is right at the bottom of the steps. A little throwback to those reality TV days.

Also if you're looking for an escape from the city, head to Central Park for a 10km walk you won't regret.  

// Grand Central Station \\ 

Every time I say this, I think of Telephone by Lady Gaga & Beyonce. "Sometimes I feel like I live in Grand Central Station". Know what I mean? 

Grand Central, the most iconic train station in America. Kitted out with an Apple store, Grand Central has it all. The history, the photo opportunities & an actual subway line. 

Well worth a visit, just to say you've been there!
